HYDRAULIC PRESS INSTALLATION

Turning on a dime

The installation of a 100-ton hydraulic press proved to be a challenge that we were able to turn into dramatic time and cost savings for our client. Through innovative thinking and unconventional approaches, we were able to move the press into place using a hydraulic crane, then turn the press 90-degrees and into position for installation.

Challenge

A remote location, very little space to move and a 30-foot machinery pit made use of a conventional crane impossible during the installation of the press. The press also needed to be moved into the building horizontally then rotated vertically before being installed.

Solution

During planning phases we were able to propose an unconventional solution that minimized structural work—reducing project timelines—and in the end greatly reduced costs. By using a hydraulic gantry crane system the press was moved into place, rotated on an axis made up of a heavy wall pipe and then installed without modification to the existing building structure.
